 Hippotherapy

This sort of equine-assisted therapy is believed to use the horse’s movements to create neurologic changes that help improve posture, balance, strength, and coordination. It addresses the physical developments necessary to strengthen an individual’s bodily functions and can be used with young children and adults looking to become more stable.

During a hippotherapy session, a licensed therapist works closely with the client and the horse. The therapist may have the client perform specific exercises or movements while riding the horse to target particular areas of the body.

The rhythm and movement of the horse’s gait simulate the natural walking motion of a human, which can be particularly beneficial for individuals who have difficulty walking or maintaining balance. This unique form of therapy offers a dynamic way to engage the body and mind, helping clients achieve physical improvements in a supportive and motivating environment.

Equine-Assisted Learning

Equine-Assisted Learning (EAL) is an experiential learning technique that facilitates personal growth by teaching social/emotional and life skills through horsemanship. EAL programs help youth build confidence and self-esteem, enhance focus, reduce stress and anxiety, and foster self-development and awareness through the equine/human bond. By developing social/ emotional competencies and confidence, we hope to create resilient youth who can successfully navigate their teenage years and become leaders among their peers and productive, contributing members of our community.

Roping in Reading

This literacy program  uses equine-assisted learning activities to enhance reading skills and retention. Horses, sensitive to human emotions and non-verbal communication, offer support that helps students engage in learning in new ways.

The program, tailored to meet the needs of struggling readers, focuses on vocabulary building, comprehension strategies, and fostering a love for reading in a non-traditional, engaging environment.
